Every so often you read a story where a couple of former Major Leaguers work together to do something great. Alright, so it’s a bit different in this case, but it sounded good. Diana Licalzi is a former colleague of mine at the Commissioner’s Office for Major League Baseball in New York. With a career change in-hand, she needed headshots to boost her personal brand.
We Meet Again: Headshots for a Personal Brand
Diana is a soon-to-be graduate with a Masters in Nutrition from the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy (Tufts University) here in Boston. After a 10-month internship with UC San Diego, Diana plans to put her status as a Registered Dietician to incredible use.
She is wrapping up production on a new website (coming soon). There, she will feature loads of information and recipes that encourage healthy eating. Diana also plans to launch her own business working with individuals, companies, and schools on healthier eating and exercise. Additionally, she wants to draw on her Puerto Rican roots by working closely with the Hispanic community. Diana plans to help those suffering from chronic disease like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes with positive lifestyle changes. And if that’s not enough, Diana also hopes to spend time educating children about the importance of nutrition. In her own time, she’s an advocate of fitness and loves performing Ashtanga yoga as part of her daily routine.
Two Simple Factors to Take Great Headshots for Your Personal Brand
Diana’s work as a dietician will largely be client-facing. Because of this, she understood the importance of having a professional headshot that delivered on confidence and approachability. Layering those two elements allows her fun and outgoing personality to jump from the image. We did well because people have messaged me saying they would hire her in a second if they could!
The fact that Diana and I worked together previously allowed us to start off on comfortable footing quickly. After a brief warmup round going over techniques, we began getting some great results around 10 minutes into the session. We probably would have seen results faster, but we found ourselves talking quite a bit about social media strategies, websites, and SEO – you know, the fun stuff!
Diana claimed she’s always been shy and awkward when it comes to headshots, but I suppose it’s because she hadn’t yet gone through a proper headshot experience, right? After 10 minutes of instruction and practice, Diana was knocking different looks out of the park left, right, and center (baseball pun intended). We were even able to freely experiment in front of the gray and black backgrounds later on in the session to add to an already vast variety of options. Goodbye shy and awkward and hello lookability!
Until Next Time: Headshots for a Future Thought Leader
It was fun working with Diana again, not only seeing her burning drive towards a new career path but understanding how brilliant she is within her craft and recognizing her desire to become a thought leader in the dietetic field of science. I always knew she was into fitness and healthy eating, and as someone who has had to reinvent things a couple of times now, it was a great experience collaborating with somebody who has had to do the same – and thankfully doing something they enjoy all the way to their core. There will be many that will benefit from her services.
